By the end of the course the learners should be able to:
- Organize a Laboratory and its environment and management the lab activity.
- Manipulate various Equipment and apparatuses in a Laboratory
- Apply the Laboratory rules and regulations during laboratory activity
- Identify various Hazards and Interpreted hazard signs
- State Units of measurements(S.I)o f the basic chemistry parameters
- Use Scientific method in developing new ideals from observations, questions, hypothesis, prediction, experimentation, recording results, setting conclusion and be able to recommend the way others can carry on from where he or he stopped.
- Explain Electrical nature of atoms
- Describe the discovery of atomic structure
- State Properties of sub atomic particles
- Explain Bohr’s model of hydrogen atom
- Explain the four types of Quantum number and draw electronic configurations of the first 30 elements of the periodic table
- Draw the periodic table of the first 30 elements and explain it.
- write the formulae and names of common Molecules and compounds
- Explain the Chemical Bonding concept
- State the Differences between a bond and a structure
- Describe the Ionic bonding
- Explain what Ions are and state Properties of ionic compounds
- Explain Covalent bonding
- State Properties of covalent compounds
- Explain Coordinate or dative bonding
- Explain Hybridization and resonance
- Explain Metallic bonding
- Explain simple bonding in semiconductors
Assessment will be done in the following ways and in the aspects shown below:
- Continuous Assessment 40 marks
- End of Semester Final exam 60 marks
